Dussehra, also called Vijayadashami, marks the victory of Lord Rama over the ten-headed demon king Ravana and symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. Celebrated on the tenth day of the Hindu month Ashvin, it coincides with the end of Navratri. Across North India, massive effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Meghanada are burned in open grounds during Ramlila performances. In Mysuru (Karnataka), Dussehra features a grand royal procession with a golden howdah atop a decorated elephant. Kullu (Himachal Pradesh) hosts a week-long Dussehra fair with deities carried from surrounding villages. In eastern India, it marks the immersion of Durga idols. The festival is a national holiday celebrated across all 28 states with regional variations in rituals and traditions.
