Gudi Padwa marks the Marathi New Year and the beginning of the Chaitra month. The central tradition is raising the Gudi -- a bright green or yellow cloth adorned with brocade, neem leaves, mango leaves, a garland, and topped with an inverted silver or copper pot, hoisted on a bamboo stick outside homes. It symbolizes victory, prosperity, and the welcoming of a new era. Families prepare puran poli and shrikhand, wear new clothes, and decorate doorways with rangoli. Celebrated across Maharashtra and Goa.
