This deliberate, layered secrecy is not obscurantism but a theological statement: the essence of divinity is beyond human perception and description. The Nabakalebara reminds the faithful that the idol -- however beloved, however ancient -- is not God. God is the invisible presence within the idol, the mystery that moves from one wooden form to another across centuries, unchanged and unchangeable. The wood decays; the divine does not.
