About this image
The devas had been losing. For millennia, the demon Tarakasura had terrorized the three worlds under the protection of a boon from Brahma: only a son of Shiva could kill him. And Shiva, the eternal ascetic, had no son. The demons calculated that he never would. They calculated wrong. This HD wallpaper shows the moment the calculation shattered. Kartikeya -- six days old by some accounts, fully grown and commanding by divine acceleration -- rides his peacock at the head of the celestial army. The Vel is raised. The demon army stretches to the horizon. And for the first time in ages, the devas are winning. The battle of Skanda against Tarakasura is one of the great set-pieces of Hindu mythology. The Skanda Purana describes it in elaborate detail -- the clashing of divine and demonic weapons, the earth shaking under the charge, the rivers running backward from the force of combat. But the decisive moment is simple: Kartikeya throws the Vel, and it pierces Tarakasura's heart. The dramatic sky in this image -- storm clouds split by divine light -- captures the cosmic scale of the conflict. This was not a local skirmish but a war for the fate of creation itself. Kartikeya's victory restored the cosmic order and established him permanently as Deva Senapati -- commander of the gods' army. Free HD download for phone and desktop.
