About this image
The Samavasarana -- the divine preaching assembly hall -- is one of the most magnificent concepts in Jain cosmology, and this extraordinary HD wallpaper brings it to life in stunning detail. Lord Mahavira sits at the elevated center of an elaborate multi-tiered circular structure of celestial architecture, His body radiant with golden light, the Jain hand (Hamsa mudra representing ahimsa) symbol blazing above Him in the sky. In concentric rings around Him, all beings listen: gods and celestial beings in the innermost ring, humans in the next, animals and birds in the outer rings -- all sitting peacefully together, their natural antagonisms dissolved in the field of the Tirthankara's presence. This is the visual representation of Mahavira's central teaching: ahimsa paramo dharma -- non-violence is the supreme religion. When the Tirthankara preaches, the very predator-prey relationships of the animal world are temporarily suspended. The lion sits beside the deer. The serpent rests near the mongoose. In the presence of perfect compassion, all fear dissolves. The Samavasarana is described in extraordinary architectural detail in Jain canonical texts: it is said to be a circular hall of three concentric tiers, adorned with jewels, with four entrance gates in the four cardinal directions, trees of celestial fragrance, a divine throne, and the miraculous ability to seat unlimited numbers of beings while allowing each to feel that the Tirthankara is speaking directly to them. This cosmic teaching hall is not merely legend -- it is the Jain vision of what enlightenment does to space: it creates a field of peace. This HD Mahavira wallpaper captures that vision.
