About this image
The Panch Kalyanak -- the Five Auspicious Events that mark the life of every Tirthankara -- are narrated in five magnificent panels in this HD wallpaper, providing a complete visual account of Lord Mahavira's journey from divine conception to liberation. These five events, which are celebrated in elaborate religious ceremonies called Panch Kalyanak Pratishtha, are: First, Garbha Kalyanak (Conception): the moment Mahavira's soul descended from the celestial realm and was conceived in the womb of Queen Trishala (or, in some accounts, first in the Brahmin woman Devananda before being transferred). Second, Janma Kalyanak (Birth): the joyful birth of Prince Vardhaman, when Indra himself descended with a celestial entourage to perform the ritual bath (abhisheka) on Mount Meru. Third, Diksha Kalyanak (Renunciation): Prince Vardhaman at age 30 renouncing His kingdom, royal garments, ornaments, and family -- pulling out His hair with His own hands (the first of the five mahavrata -- great vows) and departing into the forest as a naked monk. Fourth, Kevala Jnana Kalyanak (Enlightenment): the attainment of omniscience after 12.5 years of austerities -- the soul breaking free of all Ghati karmas and shining in its own infinite knowledge. Fifth, Moksha Kalyanak (Liberation): at age 72 in Pavapuri, Bihar -- the final dying, the complete liberation of the soul from all remaining karmas, the jiva rising to the Siddhashila at the very apex of the cosmos to dwell in infinite bliss. Each panel in this HD wallpaper captures one of these sacred moments. Together they form a complete visual dharma teaching. Free download.
